Has anyone upgraded the LZ9 3.9? Have a 2010 buick lecurne CX-2 with the 3.9 Flex fuel version and wanting to know has it ever been upgraded?

Of so how reliably and where / who can i talk to about it because there's just about nothing on the 3.9 as far as aftermarket upgrading

Hello and welcome! We used to have a member who knew so much about that engine, but sadly he is gone, I do know those can be built into very very potent engines especially with some boost, owned a vehicle with that engine before and it was great, definitely look towards cams and valve train upgrades, ecu tuning, and even boost, just make sure the transmission can handle it. Bottom end of those is very strong as is.

Hey! The 3.9 is actually a really stout motor. I know a few things about the platform but not a lot.

- you can run a performance LA1 3400 cam in these of you run thicker cam bearings

- compcams can make you a custom grind cam to your spec for these

- wot-tech.com is the go to for 60° performance

- 60° v6 facebook group has a ton more info on these engines and performance

well that gives me some hope for sure thank you for any info as i have not been lucky finding anything for the car / platform.

Transmission was for sure more of my worry as far as power rather than the engine itself i have beat this thing up and it has taken every second of it (if only you knew what its been through XD)

As far as boost on the stock block what are my weak points / what kind of boost can it take stock without damaging it or making it a non reliable car

lol yea I love those transmissions, altogether in the few w body’s I owned I killed 7 of them, hence why I ended up doing my LFX swap, btw put a big transmission cooler on it if you haven’t already, one of the parts why the die is they get really hot, and for power levels iirc around 400-500 whp is when the bottom end of those can’t hold it anymore, they are pretty stout.
